Have you considered purchasing a diesel generator for your business? With load shedding now a part of our lives in South Africa, it makes perfect sense to consider alternative sources of electrical power. Many businesses feel the impact of load shedding, especially the smaller business or SME that is not supported by infrastructure. A generator is an excellent solution for when load shedding is taking place in your area. It affords business owners many benefits.

Advantages of owning a diesel generator:

Designed in such a way that they produce electricity for a longer period of time compared to other types of generators

Diesel generators can be used in many different industries such as hospitals, factories, offices, events, and more.

Some offer different powers, which means you can choose the one which is best suited for your company.

A number of diesel generators have the option of being soundproof. This is a welcome option to help lessen the noise levels which may interfere with your particular work environment.

Diesel is a fuel that can be easily purchased at any garage or filling station, which makes it easy to source and purchase.

You can rely on it providing high levels of efficiency and performance, ensuring a continuous supply of power, without breakages. This is valuable in terms of ensuring that your company will not have unforeseen breaks during the normal workday.

The maintenance cost of diesel generators is low compared to other types of generators, adding to the value for money aspect of these generators.

A diesel generator has, provided it is regularly maintained, a longer life cycle than other generators.

Value for money

With the costs incurred due the constant power interruptions from load shedding, it makes sense to find alternate means to keep your business up and running. This where the acquisition of a diesel generator should seriously be considered. Bearing in mind its longer life and lower maintenance requirements, a diesel powered generator is the way to go.

We are pleased to state that we have a range of new generators ranging from a small FAW 19kVA generator up to a much larger Lovol 180kVA generator. Although there is a large difference in power and size these generators have many common characteristics. The generators are diesel fuelled, four cylinder, water-cooled, vertical machines. They run at 1500 Rpm 380 volt constant power output which is controlled by an AVR with a Smartgen HGM420 digital controller. They all have a convenient 12 V electric starter to power up the generator. Warning devices for our modern generator range include engine protection in the form of a low fuel and low water cut out which will prevent the machine from running dry or overheating and damaging parts of the engine. They also have a low oil pressure alert so that steps can be taken to prevent damage to the machine. These are just two of the range of available generators which must be chosen according to the power range you need.

19kVA Diesel Generator

This generator is a FAW model 4DW91-29D. It has a 110-litre fuel tank that will last for 34 hours at 75% load. It has an Amp rating of 33A and runs at 380v and 50Hz on three phase. The unit takes 15W40 oil and the silent version on this generator will produce around 68dBA at 7 metres.

Size:

Length: 2020mm

Width: 930mm

Weight: 932Kg

180kVA Diesel Generator

Our largest unit in stock is the Lovol model 1106C-P6TAG4. It has a 410-litre fuel tank that will last for 34 hours at 75% load. It has an Amp rating of 302A and runs at 380v and 50Hz on three phase. The unit takes 15W40 oil and the silent version on this generator will produce around 74dBA at 7 metres.

Size:

Length: 3350mm

Width: 1100mm

Height: 1800mm

Weight: 2685Kg

We stock all necessary spares for full maintenance and service to all these units. Remember to keep the diesel clean and if it is not used up within 3 to 6 months, it should be changed.

A generator is a combination of a fuel driven engine, usually diesel, with an electric generator or alternator. The diesel generator requires less maintenance due to its durability, reliability and sturdiness of character and is also normally cheaper to run due to the lower fuel cost. They can withstand heavy load for long hours and start off the supply on full load within minutes but they must be regularly maintained to ensure they are in good working order at all times. The best generator maintenance practice is following the maintenance schedule provided by the manufacturer of the machine.

How carry out maintenance on your generator

To begin with, a lubrication service is one of the most important maintenance practices. This must be done when the generator is shut down. Check the oil level using a dipstick and top it up using the recommended oil grade. The oil and filter should be regularly changed and this should be done every 150 hours of running time. The coolant level should be checked as often as the oil level. Some generators require a mixture of water, antifreeze and coolant additives. The radiator can be carefully cleaned of dirt and foreign particles by washing it out with low-pressure compressed air and water. Diesel fuel is subject to contamination and corrosion within a period of a year and therefore regular operation of the generator is necessary to use up the fuel before it degrades.

Regular maintenance

Your generator is the only means of keeping your factory running in the event of a power outage. To ensure that it will work when it is needed, the following steps should be followed:

Routine maintenance: this should take place as any faulty parts will be identified and then replaced.

Run it once a month to lubricate all working parts: a monthly run for five or ten minutes will lubricate all the moving parts and keep them in good order.

Change the fuel: this should preferably be changed every three to six months.

Generators are a convenient way to keep the power running during electricity outages. If you’re running a factory or manufacturing plant, they’re an essential part of your production process. But even at home, you don’t want a power surges frying your precious electricals. A power generator that automatically switches on and off is helpful, both for maintaining consistent power supply and for protecting your equipment. But during use, many parts wear out, and buying spares can be tricky. How can you be sure you’re getting quality? By purchasing from a reliable supplier like us, Generator Parts.

Early warning systems

Water and oil don’t mix, and when water gets into systems where only oil should be, bad things happen. That’s why our MGS – 250 Mechanical Gauge with Sensor Alarm is a top seller. We have it in multiple sizes (120mm to 300mm). It detects any water present in your tanks. The gauge fits standard size tanks, threading itself into place. If your tank has no attachment port, you can buy standard six-hole flange, or buy a weld-flange if your tank is metallic. The alarm rings to alert you to water levels, so if it’s an oil or fuel tank, you want all water out. But you can also use it in water tanks, to let you know when the water is too low and needs refilling.

Keeping things cool

Generators create electricity, and with all those moving parts, your equipment will emit a lot of heat. It’s why your fans wear out the fastest, so they’ll regularly need replacement parts. Our FSH fans are cheap and long lasting, so you won’t have to buy them as often as other brands. They cool your machinery by pulling in air from the surroundings. Our fans come in different sizes (101 and 102) to provide an exact fit on the spinning shaft and avoid accidents. Tighter fits also minimize vibration, which could damage your equipment. Plus, we have a convenient online store so you can order anytime! For your reliable supply of Generator parts and spares, Shop online or conact Generator Parts today on 011 749 3086 / info@generatorparts.co.za.

There are several aspects that need to be considered when purchasing a new generator. You need to first establish what the unit will power. You may be looking for a generator for your business or factory. Running or rated watts are the continuous watts required to keep the items running. Starting watts are extra watts needed for a few seconds to start motor driven items like refrigerators or heavy-duty machinery. Choose all the items you need to power and list the running and starting watt requirement for each item. Add them together to get the power output you will need.

Choose the right generator

The following features should be considered when choosing the right generator:

Run time – Find a generator with a long run time. If the run time is long you will be able to refuel before going to sleep and the generator will run through the night without a further refuel.

Outlets – Make sure the generator has the right outlets for the machinery it will power.

Portability – This can be a problem as generators are usually very heavy. Wheels and handles are normally fitted to portable generators to make them easier to move.

Extension cords – You will need an extension cord that can handle the amount of power going through it. A lightweight extension cord will heat up quickly and may not have enough plug points for all the units you wish to power.

Size – The general rule of thumb is 5kW to 50kW for personal or home use and 50kW to over 3 Megawatts for industrial use. This is a rough measure and should be carefully worked out before a generator is purchased.

Problems with generator selection

The biggest problem with generator selection is size. Most people underestimate the power needed for their requirements. It is far better to buy a unit that has slightly more power than you think you will ever need. Damage can be caused to items running off the generator if the power requirements are not adequate. Contact Generator Parts for assistance in acquiring the right generator for you.
