A Kipor automatic voltage regulator serves to stabilise the voltage output on your generator, particularly when the load changes when the generator is stared, and while it is running. The first AVRs that were used were electromechanical systems. Nowadays, modern units, including the Kipor range of AVRs, are solid state devices. It is also a feed back control system and this measures the output voltage of the generator. It then compares it with a set point. Should this indicate a variation, it will generate an error signal, and this is used to adjust the excitation of the generator. As the excitation current in the field winding of the generator increases, the terminal voltage will also increase. Thus, this allows for a high level of control in the output voltage.
