About automatic changeover switches
An automatic changeover switch, or ATS, moves the load from the mains to the generator when the power fails, and back again when the mains returns. It also keeps the two supplies from ever being connected together. Choose a switch with the right current rating and number of poles for your load and generator, check that it can start the generator if you need that function, and have it installed by a qualified electrician.
