Lovol Engine Spares for the 1000 Series Genset
Foton Lovol builds the 1000 series under Perkins licence, which is exactly why it is such a common sight in South African generator rooms: the parts are familiar, the layout is familiar, and the engines keep running. The Lovol engines we supply
We carry three Lovol G-Drive engines, all from the 1000 series:
The 1004TG is the four-cylinder; the two 1006 units are six-cylinder, with the 1006TAG adding air-to-air aftercooling for the extra output. Because they share the 1000 series architecture, a great many service parts cross over between them.
Which Lovol engine spares wear first
On a genset running fixed-speed hours rather than road miles, the wear pattern is predictable:
- Main bearing sets and big end bearing sets — the first thing to suffer from delayed oil changes or a lazy oil pump.
- Cylinder head gaskets — overheating and repeated heat cycling eventually find the fire ring.
- Piston rings and piston kits — blow-by and oil consumption are the tell-tales.
- Water pumps and cooling components — a weeping seal today is a cooked head next month.
- Valve components — guides and seats wear on an engine that spends its life at one speed.
Bearing grades matter more than the part name
Bearing sets are supplied in standard and undersize grades — STD, 10″, 20″, 30″ and 40″ — matched to how far the crank has been reground. Order the wrong grade and the shells simply will not give you the running clearance. Measure the journals, or tell us what the machine shop cut the crank to, before ordering.
Service parts and sensible intervals
Beyond the wear items, keep fuel filters, gaskets and fuel system components on the shelf. A genset that starts under load shedding conditions gets no warm-up period, so filtration and clean fuel do a lot of the protective work. Our generator care guide sets out the intervals worth holding to.
