Description

This is a 24 Volt continued rated 2 coil solenoid. Electromagnetic solenoids are used within diesel engines to switch valves and other equipment, where a smaller electrical current is used to power a larger device.  This is normally in the starter motor or turbo waste gate. The function is the same as a transistor but using an electromagnetic solenoid rather than a semiconductor to perform the switching. When the start button is pushed a small electric current is sent through the solenoid. This causes the solenoid to close a pair of heavy contacts thus relaying a large electric current which sets the engine in motion. If the solenoid receives insufficient power from the battery it will fail to start the motor.

Characteristics of the 24V Pull Solenoid 2 Wire

The solenoid is an electromagnetic inductive coil, wound around a movable steel or iron slug. The coil is shaped such that the armature can be moved in or out of the centre altering the coil’s inductance and thereby becoming an electromagnet. The armature is used to provide a mechanical force to some mechanism. Although typically weak over anything but very short distances, solenoids may be controlled directly by a controller circuit and thus have very quick reaction times. The force applied to the armature is proportional to the change in inductance of the coils with respect to the change in position of the armature and the current flowing through the coils. The force applied to the armature will always move the armature in a direction that increases the coils inductance.

Benefits of using an 24V Pull Solenoid 2 Wire

The unit is a quality product that has been designed to work on certain engines. The solenoid is a relatively inexpensive part and can be changed if necessary.  The units are available in 12 or 24 volt to suit both battery sizes. Without a solenoid the battery power is insufficient to turn the motor and the generator will not start. These small components are none the less imperative to the smooth starting of most generators and alternators. Solenoids are usually used in an energised to run situation and the generator is turned on then the solenoid is energised.
